Ok, I’ll admit it. The reason I haven’t updated lately is because I have been too into the Twilight series. A modern day Romeo and Juliet set in a vampire world. It addresses first loves, heartbreak, friendship, life transitions and family issues. Things every teenager can relate to.

Why Twilight? Why is everyone so obsessed with it? Its, in short, the perfect fantasy – for men and women! I have analyzed the plot and ideas behind the book, even weighed the pros and cons of dating a vampire – I am a psychology major and a writer, couldn’t help it.
The book plays into the classic damsel in distress/torrid love affair ideals. Here is Bella, an average teenage girl, who is clumsy and just, well, regular. Edward, is an invincible, strong, overwhelmingly beautiful man…er, vampire. He wants to protect her because he is so in love with her. Here’s the catch, he also is absurdly thirsty for her blood – a thirst that seems to be uncontrollable. A double edge sword. Bella can’t help but fall madly in love with Edward – is it his vampire charms that are made to pull you in? Is it the “bad boy” idea? Or is it absolute true love?

For her, its unreal, she feels she doesn’t deserve him, that he’s too beautiful to stand beside her just plain, human self. She refuse to understand what he sees in her. Edward is fighting his thirst to be with her all the time – the absolute pinnacle of chivalry. I think some relationships have that, the “out of my league” syndrome, but this book makes that seem so stupid. (Although I have felt that myself, so I can totally relate to Bella’s feeling.)
Bella’s trust in Edward is instant and strong, she is basically trusting him with her life – a feeling, that I think, happens all to often in relationships – in a metaphorical sense. With every relationship there is a potential for one to “kill” (breakup) with the other, there is also a chance for love, harbored in honesty and devotion.

Ok, maybe I’m getting carried away – what it comes down to is that I am so jealous of Bella (Kristen Stewart) who gets to make out with Edward (Robert Pattinson). Who wouldn’t be? Can’t wait for New Moon in November and also for Breaking Dawn to arrive in the mail!
