When I was a kid, my mom would let me get a small coffee once on the weekends. A cup loaded with sugar and cream and one that I never finished. It was a sophisticated adult drink to me. In college, it became less of a treat and more of a need. It would slop out of the hole in the lid, soaking into my gloves as I ran frantically down Appian Way, late only because I needed that cup of coffee before class. When I entered the work force, the need became a necessity – during my time commuting into New York especially. If I didn’t have my monogrammed thermos, it was a race against the clock to get my medium Hazelnut with 2 sugars and cream before the train came. A 76 minute train ride without a cup of coffee in the morning is almost as bad as forgetting your iPod, although, the later I’d rather.

Nowadays, I start off with a large cup of coffee in the morning and one in the afternoon. Although sometimes I feel it would be more efficient to wear one of those beer helmets with straw – less time wasted walking upstairs for a refill. Spring is here which means soon I’ll be switching to iced coffee, so excited! There is a place in New Milford, CT, a small coffee shop; I can’t recall the name of it. But they did the smartest thing, an invention in the same caliber as the Spork. It made its ice cubes (for the iced coffee) OUT OF coffee. This way, when the ice cubes melted, instead of getting watered down coffee, it just produced more!
Looking back on what I’ve just written, I’ve used the word “coffee” a lot. As you may have guessed, I’ve consumed quite a bit of coffee today – currently on my 3rd large cup. I also typed this extremely fast, and if I didn’t have a responsibility to edit, I would keep going on and on about coffee and all its varieties, flavors and splendor.
“I want another cut of coffee!”
