We’re allowed to listen to music at work, which is great, but its “bank appropriate” music which means WEBE108. My obvious qualm with the station is the 50 song playlist that they repeat day after day. Amid the soft rock, classics and contemporary songs, I do get mentally transported to some great movies.
Every time “Superfreak” by Rick James plays, I don’t think of his glittery dreadlocks, or even MC Hammer. I think of little Olive Hoover in Little Miss Sunshine giving the performance of a lifetime.

“You Make My Dreams Come True,” could bring me to either a wedding planning montage from The Wedding Singer full of cone crushing and cake eating. Or, possibly one of the best dance sequences in a movie, 500 Days of Summer.
“Take My Breath Away, “ahhh, Tom Cruise in uniform. Phil Collins has a new association with psycho killers thanks to Patrick Bateman’s preference for Genesis and their song “In Too Deep.” And how could I forget the end scene of the defining high school teen drama The Breakfast Club and “Don’t You Forget About Me” by Simple Minds.

I do have to say, I will never get tired of “Benny and the Jets” by Elton John. Doesn’t bring me to an obvious movie moment – just makes me happy. But I will blow my brains out if I hear Savage Garden one more time.
