The Beatles are STILL winning awards! Ringo is so goofy but he had to represent. My question is where was Pauly? The tribute to The Beatles by Cirque du Soleil and some of the cast of Across the Universe was fantastic. “Let It Be” gave me chills and made me teary eyed.
I got weepy twice actually, again when Kanye sang “Mama”, amazingly enough he got through it pretty well. As great as Kanye is and how he is a formitable man in the music industry, it does not give him the right to be a total jerk. He just bosses everyone around and says how he is going to be the best recording artist of all time. But he did walk off with four awards, so he should be pleased. I LOVED it when Vince Gill burned him. “I was just given an award by a Beatle…Kanye, can you say that?” OHH SNAP!
As much as I didn’t want her to win, Amy Winehouse’s acceptance of the record of the year award was touching. That album is amazing and pretty much flawless but she is our anti-drug. I wish she would get her act together.
John Mayer represented Fairfield during a performance with Alicia Keys but was snubbed for the male pop vocal performance by Mr. JT. Foo Fighters won for best rock album, I really though Daughtry had that one, but was pleasantly surprised! ”Love (The Beatles)” produced by George Martin & Giles Martin won for best compliation soundtrack - as well it should have! Flight of the Conchords won for best comdey album for ”The Distant Future.” The most awkward moment of the night had to be Keely Smith and Kid Rock’s performance of “Witchcraft”…Kid forgot some of the words, and it was just a strange match up.
My mom fell asleep half way through and asked what she missed. I told her, “Kanye and Amy Winehouse won stuff, people gave awkward presentations and acceptances and the Beatles are still freakin’ rad.” Pretty much sums it all up.
Honestly…I am so upset about the passing of Heath Ledger. I can’t really put it into words what I’m feeling. I’m not really sure what happened but it is really tragic. I dont care what Britany or Lindsey does - but when a REAL actor dies…its tragic. All I can think about is the scene of the police taking his body out and the absolute madhouse of people and camera flashes going off. Are you proud of that shot? To have a photo of a body bag containing a 28 year old?
Mindy hit the nail on the head with this one…she said “I think a lot of people envied him, because he was this really successful admired person with a good family life, good head on his shoulders, really talented and everyone liked him.” That is why this is so surprising and shocking. This post is a lot of ranting and rhetorical questioning, I apologize. I am just really distraught about this….
The January issue of iProng Magazine is out! Bill Palmer offered me the opportunity to do an album review for any new album - I picked Say Anything’s “In Defense of the Genre”. I am a huge fan of SA and had some opinion about their new album. People right now as we speak are reading that opinion. What?! I love it!
I have to say I am a big fan of the new album. “…Is a Real Boy” is in my top 10 favorite albums of all time, so I expected a lot from this album, and I have to say that Max really delivered. Its a perfect evolution while staying true to their style. Like I said in my review, I think it lacked “whoa’s” “hey’s” and “yeah’s” but we may have just been taking them for granted.

I saw “I’m Not There”, the new movie based on Bob Dylan. It depicts Dylan at six different periods of his life - each period is played by a new actor and character who is never really Bob Dylan. Confusing? Perfect.

Cate Blanchett - Jude Quinn/Bob Dylan
Ben Whishaw - Arthur Rimbaud /Bob Dylan

Its not confusing, but rather complex - much like I believe Dylan to be. The ability to change your persona I think is something we’d all like to do - celebrities the most. Sometimes its the only escape - to go against what you had been doing before. With that in mind - the “Dylan goes electric” scene was amazing. The stand out performance for me was Cate Blanchett (and not just because she’s a woman playing a man). After watching a few scenes I even forgot she was a woman and really began to see her as Dylan.
People say I look like Blanchett…does that mean if I put on a crazy brown wig and sunglasses that I would look like Dylan…possibly. Heath Ledger’s performance was the most un-Dylan-esque - but he is still really really good looking and a great actor.
I have been exposed to Dylan all my life pretty much. My father loves him. Every morning we’d be awoken to Dylan records and my father singing. I think I learned most of Slow Train Coming that way. So here is my final thought about the movie.
I believe the movie stayed true to who Dylan is and as what people make him out to be. Although he is highly iconic and a legend, Dylan is elusive. And even after seeing this movie, one based on his life, he still remains a mystery to me - and I think he’d want it that way.
FINALLY! My first post! I’ve only had this page since like October. I have totally been technoslacking (credit: Mindy).
Recently, Eric (my brother in law) informed me of a friend [Bill Palmer] he knows who would be interviewing Silverchair and needed help with some questions and background info. So who better to answer those questions than I! Through a series of emails back and forth - I gave him several questions and whatever I could tell him about the boys. (Disclaimer: I just recently met the drummer Ben Gillies, for a total of about 10 minutes, so I don’t actually know Silverchair - I’ve just loved them for close to 11 years.)

Silverchair graces the December issue - it can be downloaded for free here. The interview starts on page 47, my name is at the end. Besides just the Silverchair interview, there is a lot more to read and scan through so give it a look! Bill gave me the more professional title of “research assistant” not just “a girl who is a huge fan and knows an uncanny amount about them”.
So I want to thank Bill for this opportunity and I’m glad my… what some would call an obsession …came to good use!
